Dr. Gaby Kafie, president of Kafie Trading Company, LLC, is turning 50 years old this month, and will be celebrating the occasion with the announcement about a new cigar line that is scheduled to be released later this year.

The Kafie 1901 Serie L, which gets its name from the Roman numeral that represents the number 50, will become a regular production addition to the the company’s portfolio. The blend uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper that has been aged for four years, while the binder and fillers come from Nicaragua. It is a cigar that Kafie called his most important blend due to the milestone birthday that inspired it as well as that it is a marker of his seven years in the cigar industry. He said that it has a blend “that implements all the teachings that I gathered from working with the late family of Rolando Reyes Sr.,” as well as his current team in Honduras.

The line will be offered in four sizes:

  • Kafie 1901 Serie L 7 x 38
  • Kafie 1901 Serie L 6 x 46
  • Kafie 1901 Serie L 6 x 52
  • Kafie 1901 Serie L 6 x 60

The cigars are being produced at Tabacalera Kafie, which is also known as Tabacalera San Jerónimo, in Danlí, Honduras.

“Life is a journey of milestones, successes and failures,” said Kafie in a press release. “The secret is to always learn from your failures and minimize them or whenever possible learn from the mistakes of others. The premium cigar industry has given me a new and positive outlook on my journey in life. Living with a visual impairment (disability) is not easy, but I do my best to try not to let it affect operations. I truly feel this journey I am on is a blessing, a second calling. My passion is to produce the finest cigars coming out of Honduras.

A firm shipping date has not yet been set, though Kafie indicated the first shipment is expected to be received in early November.
